Adventures in Tarot Reading

First Steps:

Dressing Up the Gorilla

So, for this my 53rd hop in total, I called it Adventures in Tarot Reading. I’m likely being influenced because I am using The Dungeons & Dragons Tarot Deck, and The Gay Tarot.

This one feels like its’ part catharsis, and part internal dialogue, which as editions go, I guess it’s a little different to the usual calibre. Currently I am visiting the Shabashi Set 2 at work, which has a movement within it called “Pointing the Way” which is apt for this moment, as Kim Kim has posed a thought point surrounding the question of Where Are We Going?

I have had my gorilla busy today figuring out the best spread for this hop and to be honest, we’re both at an impasse with it. You might be wondering what I am going on about, to do with the Gorilla I mean. It is an involved yarn, which might be an interesting diversion for a few paragraphs… Okay so this takes a moment to set up but its worth it.

Firstly: Picture a Gorilla, big or small as you like, give it as much detail as you are able.

Secondly: Now you have that picture, can you smell your gorilla, what scent/smell do they have?

Thirdly: Can you feel the gorilla, are they soft, coarse, leathery, fuzzy, etc…

Fourthly: Can you hear the gorilla, what do they sound like?

Lastly: Can you dress the gorilla, and how have you dressed them?

The idea behind this is the Gorilla is a means of distracting the mental mind, we are continually active, always thinking, always doing, and our heads are usually never quiet. Which is where the Gorilla comes in; the purpose of the Gorilla is to figure out what part of your active mind is the most dominant, visual, tactile, auditory, or the olfactory senses like smell and taste.

Once you have worked that one out, then you can use the gorilla to distract the mental mind, and access the subconscious, or the recesses and dormancy side like imagination or non-linear logic.

Plus, I have distracted myself through writing this out, which has the benefit of giving me enough perspective to work through the pillars spread. It is one that I visited during my 50th edition of the Hop, which was hosted by Joy Vernon. It was a hop that had massive amounts of sign posting, if you are interested, feel free to hop on over to the post and have a read here.

So, I am revisiting “The 3 Pillars Reading” here in this edition because I am now looking for signposts because I am at a crossroads and not exactly sure which path I should be taking. If you haven’t visited the 50th post and are still with me now, let’s take a quick look at how the “The 3 Pillars Reading” works and is set up.
